Christian Martin Frähn

Christian Martin Joachim Frähn (* June 4, 1782 in Rostock, .. † 16 Augustjul / August 28 1851greg in Saint Petersburg ) was a German orientalist and numismatist.

Life

Frähn, son of a tailor like his teacher Oluf Gerhard Tychsen (1834-1815), studied at Rostock and Göttingen and Tübingen preferably Oriental Languages ​​, 1806, lecturer at the university of his native city, in 1807 professor of oriental languages ​​at Kazan, and in 1817 a member of the Academy of Sciences and head librarian in St. Petersburg, founder of the Asiatic Museum of the Academy and its director from 1818 to 1842.
