Chung Un-chan

Chung Un - chan ( Hangul: 정운찬; born March 21, 1947 in Gongju ) is a South Korean politician. From 2009 to 2010 he was the 40th Prime Minister of South Korea.

Life

Chung Un -chan was 1978-2009 Professor of Economics at Seoul National University ( SNU ). From 2002 to 2006 he served as its president.

Academic career

In 1970 he graduated from the SNU his bachelor's degree in economics, he joined the master in 1972 at Miami University in Ohio from. 1978 Chung received his Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University. In 1983 he was associate professor visiting at the University of Hawaii and Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and at the Ruhr- University in Bochum, Germany in the years 1986 to 1987 and 1999. 2002 he was dean of the College of Social Sciences. From the Russian Far Eastern State University in Vladivostok, he received an honorary doctorate in October 2004.

Political career

Chung has been touted as one of the top candidates of the Uri Party for the 2007 presidential election, but he did not join the party.

The winner of the 2007 presidential election, Lee Myung -bak of the Grand National Party, appointed him in 2009 as a successor to Han Seung -soo, the second Prime Minister of his term. On 29 September 2009, the South Korean Parliament the appointment agreed. Yet in September 2009, Chung said the construction of Sejong City in a planned form as efficiently and slapped together with President Lee Myung -bak an alternative construction before. The South Korean parliament overturned this proposal but later, after which Chung resigned on 10 August 2010 after only ten months in office. Prior to corruption allegations against him were also at a parliamentary hearing has been raised.

Private

Chung is a baseball fan. He is a fan of the Doosan Bears and the New York Yankees.
