Chungará Lake

The Chungará Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world.

The cobalt blue Chungará Lake is 59 km east of the small town of Putre in Chile in the Región de Arica y Parinacota, Arica Province. In the vicinity there are six large volcanoes such as the Pomerape and Parinacota with over 6200 m altitude. The lake is part of the Lauca National Park.

Wildlife: Flamingos, vicuña, alpaca, Andes condors and Viscachas

The Chilean regulatory authority for the national parks, CONAF has created a walking path around the lake. The area is quite popular with mountain bikers.
