The Chunichi Dragons (Japanese中日 ドラゴンズ, Chunichi doragonzu ) is a Japanese professional baseball team. They play in the Central League and have been twice, 1954 and 2007, winning the Japanese Nippon Championship Series. Home of the Dragons is Nagoya, their home games they played in Nagoya Dome from.

Owner and namesake of the Dragons is the Chunichi Shimbun, a nationally published newspaper from Nagoya and publisher of Chunichi Sports and Sports Tōkyō. Manager of the team is former player Hiromitsu Ochiai Star.

History

The team was founded in 1936 by the Shin Aichi Shimbun, one of the two precursors of the Chunichi Shimbun, a Nagoya - Gun (名古屋 军) and competed in the just- built Japanese Baseball League, among others, with the Giants from Tōkyō and local rivals Nagoya Kinko Gun (名古屋 金 鯱 军). Alien star of the team was at this time " Bucky " Harris McGalliard. Her best they reached in 1943, when they finished second behind the Giants.

After several name changes (1944: Sangyo -gun; 1946: Chubu - Nippon -gun; 1947: Chūbu Nippon Dragons ) the team was called from 1947 to 1950 and since 1955 Chunichi Dragons. From 1951 to 1953, she starred as Nagoya Chunichi Dragons and 1954 as Diamonds.

Since establishment of today's league structure in 1949 the Dragons were a total of eight seasons finish first the Central League (1954, 1974, 1982, 1988, 1999, 2004, 2006 and 2010). But only twice they managed the championship title with the victory of the Nihon Series: 1954 they defeated the Nishitetsu Lions, the best season of the Pacific League; and 2007, when they only about the playoffs, the Climax Series, reached newly created the final, they won 4-1 against the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters. In the decisive fifth game against the Persian- star Japanese pitcher Darvish Yū the Dragons decided the championship with a Perfect Game ( Score: 1-0).

2007 won the Dragons also be transmitted between the masters from China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan Konami Cup.

Since its inception in 1936, the Dragons reached up to and including 2010, a winning percentage of .519 ( with 4691 wins and 4344 losses at 301 draws).

Stadium

Home of the Dragons is the Nagoya Dome was completed in 1997, provides space for 40,000 spectators.
