Chūō, Tokyo

Chūō (Japanese中央 区, -ku ) is one of 23 districts in the east of Tokyo, Japan, prefecture and is located in the center-east of Tokyo, capital of Japan. The district is the main business center of Tokyo, next to the Shinjuku district in the west of the city. Chūō was taken on March 15, 1947 from the merger of the old city districts Nihombashi and Kyobashi. In the district are the famous boulevard Ginza and Tsukiji Fish Market. In Chūō live 134 388 inhabitants, over 650,000 commuters and visitor counts the district daily.

Geography

Chūō lies to the east of Tokyo Prefecture. The district extends from the Tokyo Yamanote Line and the train station in the west to the right bank of the Sumida. In the northeast it extends to the Kanda, in the south to the Bay of Tokyo. Much of the area of ​​Chūō has arisen over the centuries by land reclamation in the bay, most recently the whole area Tsukishima.

  • The former municipality Nihombashi covered the north of today's Chūō district. He was named after the bridge, which was the zero point for measuring distance on all roads in Japan since the Edo period. Directly on the Tokyo Station Yaesu is.

Mayor of Chūō since 1987 Yoshihide Yada, who was re- elected in the unified local elections in 2011 with LDP - Komei support for a seventh term. The Parliament has 30 regular members and is also elected in uniform regional elections.

For the Prefecture Parliament of the district forms a Einmandatswahlkreis, represented since the 2013 election after four years of interruption in eighth term of the Liberal Democrats Haruyasu Tateishi.
