Chyžné

Chyžné ( until 1927 slovak also " Chyžnô "; Hungarian Hizsnyó - to 1907 Hisnyó ) a town in central Slovakia with 418 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), the Region belongs to Okres Revúca, a circle of Banskobystrický and in the traditional landscape Gemer is.

Geography

The municipality is located in the mountains Revúcka highlands below the mountains Stolické Hills, both part of the Slovak Ore Mountains, and is located on the left bank side of Muráň in the valley. The height of the 19.5 km ² municipal area varies from 280 m nm N.M. to 1409 m ( Mountain Kohút ). The immediate area of ​​the village is deforested, in the northern part grow beech forests and hornbeam. The center is located at an altitude of 299 m nm and is eight kilometers away from Revúca.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1427 as Hyznow in writing, based on the gothic church but insisted the village already in the late 13th century. By the end of the Middle Ages Chyžné belonged to the estate of Jelšava, in the 16th century changed the village to that of the castle Muráň. 1556 the village was destroyed by the Turks and was them 40 years to pay tribute.

1828 were counted 82 houses and 734 inhabitants. In addition to agriculture and sheep farming has long been mining ( from the 16th to the mid 20th century ) significant and the residents worked in the ironworks in the area as well as carters.

According to the 2011 census lived in Chyžné 420 inhabitants, of whom 359 Slovaks, 11 Roma, Magyars 6 and 1 Czech. 48 inhabitants did not know. 143 inhabitants known to the Protestant Church, 85 inhabitants to the Roman Catholic Church, 15 inhabitants to the United Methodist Church. 107 inhabitants were non-denominational and 58 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.

Attractions

  • Roman Catholic Church of the Annunciation (Slovak kostol Zvestovania Panne Marii ) in the Gothic style in the second half of the 13th century. The single-nave church houses medieval paintings on the walls and the vault of the presbytery and a late Gothic side altar from 1506, the work of sculptor Paul of Leutschau
  • Protestant Church in the classical style from 1886
