Čierne nad Topľou

Čierne nad Topľou ( until 1927 slovak " Čierne " or " carne" - until 1948 " The Black "; Hungarian Felsőfeketepatak - to 1902 Feketepatak ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia.

The municipality is located in the middle reaches of the Topľa, a right tributary of the Ondava. The Topľatal is named after the mountain breakdown between Giraltovce and Hanušovce nad Topľou here already wider and is farmed intensively. Southwest of the community, the mountain range Slanské Hills rises with its highest mountain Šimonka ( 1092 meters above sea level).

By Čierne nad Topľou performs one of the main east - west routes in the country: the national road 18 from Prešov about Vranov nad Topľou after Michalovce. The station of the municipality lies on the parallel remote tram Prešov - Michalovce. In the north- east of the village there is an approximately three -acre industrial park ( Hospodářský dvor ).

The place was first mentioned in 1399. The Protestant church dates from the 17th century.

In Čierne nad Topľou live almost exclusively Slovaks. The population has declined slightly since 1991. 78 % of the population profess the evangelical church, 17 % gave as a confession to Roman Catholic.
