City of Chelmsford

Chelmsford is a local government district with the status of a city and a borough in the county of Essex in England. The largest city and county seat of both the Borough and the County of Essex is Chelmsford.

The administrative district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the town of Chelmsford with the largest part of the Rural District Chelmsford. On June 1, 2012, the County received the status of a City.
