The capital of Chiapas, Tuxtla Gutierrez, about 430 miles away; to Mexico City, there are about 1130 km.

Economy

The border town lives mainly from goods to Guatemala, which is administered by the Rodolfo Robles - bridge; many goods are to have faster and cheaper in Mexico, so that many Guatemalan small traders stock up here and create their shopping on foot or in dinghies over the shallow river. In addition, illegal drugs and migration activities are handled.

History

After the settlement of the dispute to the membership of Chiapas in 1882 about 2,000 people settled on the Mexican side of the Rio Suchiate. Instead of a small settlement was built on a rectangular street plan of the city Mariscal, which was renamed a few years later in Suchiate. In 1925 the settlement was granted the status of a pueblo; 27 years later (1952 ) the place became a city and was named in honor of the priest and independence fighter Miguel Hidalgo ( 1753-1811 ) renamed Ciudad Hidalgo.
