Clan Cunningham

Cunningham is the name of a Scottish clan, who hails from Ayrshire. The clan has no recognized by the Lord Lyon King of Arms Chief why he is considered armigerous communities.

History

Hervey Cunningham was in 1263 by Alexander III. for his bravery at the Battle of Largs rewarded with the lands of Kilmaurs, and by marriage the goods have been extended. In 1488 the title of Earl of Glencairn was created. The family traditionally frequented the circle of the powerful, the 4th Earl was a friend of the reformer John Knox, and the 9th Earl was named after the Restoration to the Lord Chancellor. The 14th and so far last Earl was a patron of the Scottish national poet Robert Burns.

The motto of the clan is Over Fork Over.
