Clan MacFarlane
MacFarlane ( " son of Farlane " ) is the name of a Scottish clan, which originated from the area of the northern Loch Lomond.
History
The origin of the clan goes back to a certain Parlan, who was a great-grandson of the Earl of Lennox from the 13th century. The MacFarlane's were known for their combative nature; they participated in the battles of Pinkie ( 1547) and Langside (1568), where they fought against Queen Mary. On the other side of the clan also had a reputation of illegality; the condemnation of clan members for armed robbery in 1624 was no exception.
The motto of the MacFarlane is This I'll defend ( " This I will defend ").
