Clan Wallace

Wallace is the name of a Scottish clan, who hails from Ayrshire and Renfrewshire, where he has been present since the 12th century.

History

The name possibly comes from a Latin word for " Welsh ". The most famous son of the clan was the Scottish freedom fighter William Wallace, who fought in the late 13th and early 14th century at the Robert the Bruce's side against the English, briefly ruled Scotland and was betrayed in the end. It is sung in an unofficial Scottish national anthem ( Scots wha hae wi ' Wallace bled ).

The motto of the clan is accordingly per libertate ( " For Freedom ").
