Clarence Dennis Coughlin

Clarence Dennis Coughlin ( born July 27, 1883 in Kingston, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, † 15 December 1946 in Wilkes -Barre, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1921 and 1923 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Clarence Coughlin attended the public schools in Wilkes -Barre and the Wesleyan College in Middletown ( Connecticut ). He then studied at Harvard University. Between 1906 and 1910 he worked in Wilkes-Barre as a teacher. After studying law and his 1910 was admitted to the bar he began to work in Luzerne County in this profession. He was also active in Wilkes - Barre and Scranton in the trade, in banking and in the real estate industry. In 1918 he was during the First World War on the safety committee of his district. For six years, Coughlin was a member of a commission to revise the criminal laws of the State of Pennsylvania. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. From 1915 to 1917 he was chairman of the district in Luzerne County.

In the congressional elections of 1920, Coughlin was in the eleventh electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat John J. Casey on March 4, 1921. Since he has not been confirmed in 1922, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1923. During this time he was chairman of the committee responsible for supervising the expenditure of the Department of Commerce.

Between 1925 and 1937 was Clarence Coughlin appeal judges in Luzerne County. He died on December 15, 1946 in Wilkes - Barre. His nephew Lawrence Coughlin was also a congressman.
