Luzerne County, Pennsylvania
Luzerne County is a county located in the state of Pennsylvania in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 319 250 inhabitants and a population density of 138 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wilkes - Barre.
History
Luzerne County was formed in 1786 from parts of Northumberland County. Was named the County to Anne- César, Chevalier de la Luzerne, a French diplomat. This was 1779-1784 France second messenger in the United States.
Geography
The county has an area of 2349 square kilometers, of which 42 square kilometers are water surface.
