Clarke Peters
Clarke Peters ( born April 7, 1952 as Peter Clarke in New York City ) is an American actor, singer, dancer and writer. His best-known roles include that of Det Lester Freamon and Albert " Big Chief " Lambreaux in the HBO television series The Wire and Treme.
Life and work
Peters grew up in New Jersey. In 1971, he worked for a time in Paris, and then settled in London in 1973, where he worked as a musician, singer and actor. In London's West End, he was among others in Gotta Shoe, Bubbling Brown Sugar, to see Blues in the Night, Porgy and Bess, The Witches of Eastwick, Chicago and Chess. Having already written several revue numbers along with his friend Ned Sherrin, he wrote it in 1990, the script at Five Guys Named Moe. The musical was listed in both the West End and Broadway, and earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Screenplay. Later, Peters also appeared on Broadway and in regional theaters in the United States.
Since the late 1970s, Peters has also appeared as an actor in film and television, one of his first performances was a minor role in the British science fiction Outland - Planet of the Damned on the side of Sean Connery. In the 1990s, was in the guest roles in several British television series and 1999 to see in the cinema with the movie Notting Hill. The following year he played the role of Fat Curt in the HBO miniseries The Corner. This describes the drug scene in a district of West Baltimore and is based on a non-fiction book by David Simon, who also acted as producer for them. With Simon Peters worked later in his two most famous roles as a police investigator Lester Freamon in The Wire (2002-2008) and as a Mardi Gras Indian Chief Albert Lambreaux in Treme (2010-2013) together again. Both highly acclaimed by critics series also come from the pen of Simon. The Wire paints a portrait of society, the city of Baltimore with a special look to the drug scene and describes the reconstruction of a Treme neighborhood in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
