Claude-Juste-Alexandre Legrand

Claude Juste Alexandre Legrand - ( born February 23, 1762 Le Plessier -sur -Saint -Just, † January 8, 1815 in Paris) was a French general.

Life

At fifteen Legrand joined in 1777 the royal army. Inspired by the ideals of the revolution, he fought in the revolutionary wars and made very fast career. In 1793 he came with the rank of " General de Brigade" to the staff of Marshal Jean- Baptiste Jourdan.

Legrand fought bravely in front of Fleurus (26 June 1794), Ostrach (21 March 1799) and Stockach (25 March 1797).

He later transferred to the staff of General Jean -Victor Moreau and took, among other things at the Battle of Hohenlinden (3 January 1800) part. Regardless of the discrepancies between Moreau and Napoleon later moved to the royal rod and fought under Marshal Nicolas Jean -de- Dieu Soult before Hollabrunn (16 November 1805), Austerlitz (2 December 1805), Jena (14 October 1806) and Prussian Eylau ( February 7/8 1807).

After further Commendations and Promotions Legrand joined Marshal André Masséna and participated in battles at Ebelsberg (3 May 1809), Aspern ( 21-22. May 1809 ) and Wagram ( 5 / July 6, 1809 ) in part.

When Napoleon planned his invasion of Russia, is announced as one of the first Legrand. Together with Charles Nicolas Oudinot marshals and Laurent de Gouvion Saint- Cyr, he fought at Kljastizy ( 28-29. July 1812 ) and in the first ( 17-18. August 1812 ) and Second Battle of Polotsk ( 18-19. October 1812 ). While retreating Legrand was very severely wounded in the Battle of Berezina ( 26-28. November 1812 ).

Legrand survived and was able to return to Paris. But he no longer gained his health and died on 8 January 1815 the after-effects of his war wounds. His final resting place he found in the Pantheon (Paris).
