Clément Roques

Clément -Émile Cardinal Roques ( born December 8, 1880 in Graulhet, France, † September 4, 1964 in Rennes) was Archbishop of Rennes.

Life

Clément- Emile Roques studied in Albi and Toulouse, the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology. He received on 2 April 1904, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a parish priest, prefect of studies and seminar leader in Castres.

On April 15, 1929, he was named by Pope Pius XI. Bishop of Montauban. He received his episcopal consecration Archbishop Pierre- Célestin Cézerac (1856-1940) on 24 June of the same year. 1934 gave him Pius XI. the management of the Archdiocese of Aix.

Pope Pius XII. transferred Clément- Emile Roques in 1940, the leadership of the Archdiocese of Rennes and took him on 18 February 1946 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Balbina in the College of Cardinals to. Clément -Émile Cardinal Roques acted as papal legate to the Pope on several celebrations and took in the years 1962 and 1963 on the first two sessions of the Second Vatican Council in part.

He died on 4 September 1964 in Rennes and was buried in the local cathedral.
