Col du Lautaret

The Col du Lautaret is a mountain pass in the French Alps. It connects the valleys of Oisans and Briançon. You can reach the Col du Lautaret from three sides. The southeast ramp begins in Briancon and leads up to the 2,057 m high mountain pass. The western approach comes from the village of Le Clapier at Le Bourg d'Oisans. This is the longer and more difficult side to the Lautaret. Due to it's the artificial lake Lac du Chambon and the resort of La Grave.

From the north of the Col du Lautaret from Saint -Michel- de -Maurienne on the upstream Col du Telegraph ( 1,566 m), the Valloire ski resort and the Col du Galibier is ( 2,645 m).

This pass roads of the Col du Lautaret almost every year crossed by the Tour de France, because they are important links between the valleys of the Romanche, Isère and Maurienne. It is a pass in the second category. If the Col du Galibier crosses in the same stage, as is done at no Lautaret mountain classification. The mountains classification at the Lautaret depends on the Directions page and varies from year to year 1 to 3 category.

For recreational riders of the Col du Lautaret offers the possibility to achieve more passes: the Col du Galibier, the Col de la Madeleine (2,000 m), Col du Glandon ( 1,924 m), Col de la Croix de Fer ( 2,067 m) and the Col d' Izoard ( 2,360 m). The Lautaret is one of the Hautes -Alpes and forms the connection to the regions Isère and Savoy.

Northwest above the summit of the Lautaret is the built in 1899 Alpine Garden Station Alpine Joseph Fourier.
