Commune IV (Niamey)

Niamey IV is one of five arrondissements of Niger's capital, Niamey. Niamey IV has 165 347 inhabitants ( 2001).

Geography

Niamey IV is located in the east of the city on the left bank of the River Niger. The district is adjacent to Niamey III in the northwest and the southwest, across the river, to the north Niamey V. urban development is constrained by a wide green belt.

Niamey IV consists of thirteen districts, twenty traditional villages, four administrative villages and a hamlet.

History

In 1967 Talladjé in an industrial area. Later, most of the factories were closed and the industrial zone has since been broke. Niamey IV was as a municipality (French: commune urbaine ) founded in 1996 within the city of Niamey. Until this year, Niamey consisted of only three municipalities. The area of Niamey IV belonged to the former municipality of Niamey Niamey II 2010, the municipalities were converted into arrondissements.
