Company (military unit)

Company refers to a military unit (sometimes directly to a major unit ) reports an association and consists of subunits.

History

The used word in the whole of Europe - Compagnia Compagnie - replaced in the 17th century in the German language the word troop.

The company was originally, as the regiment, an administrative unit and not a tactical military units ( these were German and "international " means forcibly pile or square pile, from the mid-17th century as a battalion at the time of the mercenaries ). From the view of the company as an economic enterprise (see Company ( company ) ) is also the source survived until the 19th century term company business.

Germany

Structure

In the Bundeswehr, the company is the smallest disciplinary unit and consists of 60 to 250 soldiers. It is divided into two or more trains as part of units with specific military tasks.

In some branches of the Army and the Air Force and the Navy, the company and thus the company commander has a different name:

  • Artillery and Army air defense troops: Battery ( Battery Commander )
  • Air Force ( except in the training sessions and in use guide service) and Heeresfliegertruppe: Season ( squadron commander / captain )
  • Marine and schools of the Bundeswehr: inspection (inspection chief ).

In general, a company is a battalion, in special cases, particularly in the combat support forces and the army structure new army, under also provides a regiment as the next higher organizational unit. Independent companies ( about 150-250 soldiers) who have additional support groups, including a brigade or, less commonly, a division (eg, Fernspähkompanien ) are located.

In use, a combat company with parts of 1./Stabs- and supply company such as field kitchen squad, maintenance crew WTG, medical corps and depending on the branch of service with remote logs Rupp ( battalion radio circuit), Kradmeldern ( linkage group ), EAEC squad with Erdarbeitsgerät, parts of the 6./schweren struggle Company joint Fire Support Team (formerly VB mortar / artillery ) and other forces, mostly in troop strength as dog handlers strengthened.

A mechanized company is by delivery and subordination usually mixed from two armored trains and two armored infantry trains and is supported in addition to the above sub-units with other subordinate parts such as Army air defense group with two cheetahs, a pioneer and recovery tanks and armored San squad.

An infantry company can be reinforced with a mechanized infantry or armored. It is usually not mixed alternately with mechanized companies.

Bar associations or companies provide large organizations support staff for bar service provider, and are usually performed by an officer of the military professional service. The officers of the staff that make up the staff departments (S1- S6) are summarized in the bar and not part of the headquarters company.

Numbering system

In the Bundeswehr companies are generally referred to as ordinal numbers, which always behind a slash the number or the name of the parent association follows in writing. For example, designated 3 / - only the third company, 3./310 the third company of an ( unspecified ) battalion or regiment with the number 310, 900 1./FmBtl the first Company of the 900th Signal Battalion On tactical character the number of the company is on the left ( below) before the basic characters.

Austria

In Austria, the company commander is referred to as " company commander ".

Switzerland

In Switzerland, the company commander is referred to as " company commander ". In the Swiss army exist for the unit depending on the branch of service, other names:

  • Artillery and antiaircraft: Battery
  • Train: column
  • Air Force: Season
  • Cavalry and dragoons (up to 1972): squadron
