Conor Niland

Conor Niland ( born September 19, 1981 in Birmingham ) is a former Irish tennis player.

Career

Niland was especially active on the Future and Challenger Tour. In individual, he won three titles on the Challenger Tour. In 2011, he qualified for the main draw for the first time at a Grand Slam tournament: As the first Irishman since Sean Sorensen in 1977 and 1980 he was at the tournament in Wimbledon in the first round. His playing against Adrian Mannarino he lost nearly in five sets, even though he was already leading a double break 4-1 in the decisive fifth set. He repeated his success at the U.S. Open in 2011, where he also qualified for the main round. Top-seeded Novak Djokovic against it remained no chance at a score of 0:6, 1:5, he even had to retire due to food poisoning.

He played 2000-2012 for the Irish Davis Cup team. In 22 appearances, he played 35 games. In both the single and double 16:14 3-2 his balance is positive.

On April 12, Niland announced his retirement from professional tennis. For some time he was suffering from a severe hip injury that ultimately compelled him to end his career.
