Constantinople Vilayet

The Vilayet of Istanbul (Turkish: İstanbul Vilayeti ) was from 1864 to 1922 a large province ( vilayet ) of the Ottoman Empire. She was largely identical to the present province of Istanbul.

In 1914 - one year before the Armenian Genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Greeks - were by the inhabitants of the province's total 560 434 Muslims, 205 752 Greeks, 82,880 Armenians and 52,126 Jews.
