Continente Modelo

Modelo Continente is a Portuguese supermarket chain. It used to belong to the French Carrefour Group and since 2007 has been owned by the Sonae group. The Modelo Continente Hipermercados are the retail division of Sonae, Portugal's largest holding company. It is the largest retailer in the country with a large network of hypermarkets in shopping centers.

History

The company started in 1985 from the merger of the two supermarkets Modelo and Continente. While Modelo a foreign group belonged, Continente is purely Portuguese origin. It was established in 1985 in Matosinhos its first hypermarket, called " Continente ". It is the flagship store of Sonae Distribuição. She has consecutively received the " Superbrands " award six years, a testament to brands that distinguish themselves from competitors by specific performance. In addition Continente was the 9th consecutive year named in Portugal "Brand of the trust".
