Copainalá is a municipality in the northwest of the Mexican state of Chiapas.

The municipality has about 21,000 inhabitants and an area of ​​347.6 km ². The name Copainalá, actually koa Painal - Lan, comes from Nahuatl and means " place where serpents ran ".
