Copainalá is a municipality in the northwest of the Mexican state of Chiapas.
The municipality has about 21,000 inhabitants and an area of 347.6 km ². The name Copainalá, actually koa Painal - Lan, comes from Nahuatl and means " place where serpents ran ".
Administrative seat and largest town of the Municipalities is the same Copainalá ( 6,550 inhabitants); more places with more than a thousand inhabitants are Ángel Albino Corzo and Benito Juárez. The municipality borders the Municipalities Francisco Leon, Ocotepec, Coapilla, Chicoasén, San Fernando, Berriozábal and Tecpatán.
