Coregonus confusus

The Pfärrig (Coregonus confusus ), also referred to as Pfärrit, is a rare freshwater fish of the genus Coregonus within the family Coregonidae.

Features

The Pfärrig reaches a standard length of 350 mm. It has 33 to 38 gill rakers. The body height is 85 to 92 mm. The head length is 68-76 mm. The back is moderately bent.

Way of life

The Pfärrig is a deep- water dwellers. The spawning season is between December and January. In Murten oviposition took place on sand and mud at a depth of 35 to 40 m. In Biel the spawn is deposited on slopes in 2-20 m depth.

Status

The Pfärrig 1885 by Victor Fatio as a subspecies of Coregonus Balchens annectus confusus (now valid binomials: Coregonus suidteri ) described. The copy marked as syntype was lost in 1902. 2008 Pfärrig by IUCN was "at risk" due to the very small distribution area in the categories ( vulnerable ) classified. Previously, the type came in Biel, Murten and probably in front of the Lake of Neuchâtel. Today, the occurrence is limited to the Lake Biel. The population in Murten is in the 1960s, due, extinct by eutrophication and changes in the water level.
