Cornelius Vander Starr

Cornelius Vander Starr ( * October 15, 1892 in Fort Bragg ( California ), † December 20, 1968 ) was an American entrepreneur. He founded the American International Group.

The American was in Fort Bragg ( California ) born the son of a Dutch railway employee. At 19, he sold ice cream and went in 1914 to San Francisco. In 1918 he was an employee of the Pacific Mail Steamship Company only to Yokohama, then to Shanghai to work in the insurance business. In 1919 he founded the American International Group. 1949, after the victory of the CCP, he moved the company headquarters to New York City.

The Foundation The Star Foundation was founded in 1955. The Foundation is active in accordance with statutes in education and other areas and helped, among other things The establishment of the C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience. The CV Starr East Asian Library, Columbia University was created by a gift from the Foundation in 1981, the CV Starr East Asian Library of the University of California, Berkeley was completed in October 2007.
