Corona Schröter

Corona ( Elisabeth Wilhelmine ), Schröter ( born January 14, 1751 Guben; † August 23, 1802 in Ilmenau) was a German singer and actress.

Life

Corona Schröter was the first child of Johann Friedrich Schröter († 1811), oboist in Count Brühl's Regiment, and his wife Marie Regina born stapler (* 1723), daughter of a shoemaker and Lohgerbermeisters born. She had siblings Johann Samuel (1752-1788), Heinrich ( 1760 to after 1782 ) and Maria Henriette ( 1766 to after 1804 ). After the family had moved to Leipzig, Johann Adam Hiller Schröter trained as a singer. In Leipzig she met Johann Wolfgang von Goethe know who was immediately impressed with her.

In October 1776, they were obliged to Goethe's proposal as Hofvokalistin and chamber singer in Weimar. She was also acting talent, the center of Goethe's amateur theater, among other things, she was the first actress of Iphigenia. An oil painting of the painter Georg Melchior Kraus (1737-1806) shows how Corona as Iphigenia and Goethe as her brother Orestes stand together on stage.

In Weimar she also attended the Goethe -funded Princely characters school. From 1788 she withdrew more and more from courtly life until she passed away in 1802 at the Saxon court in Ilmenau in the presence of her longtime friend Wilhelmine Probst of tuberculosis. Honors

A primary school and a street in Guben and a road are named in the southern city of Ilmenau to her memory of Schröter today. The Park on the Ilm in Weimar, there is a corona Schröter - way, which passes directly to Goethe's garden house.
