Costică Toma

Constantin " Costică " Toma ( born January 1, 1928 in Brăila, † 13 May 2008 Bucharest ) was a Romanian football player at the position of the goalkeeper. He played 108 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A.

Career as a player

After he had spent his youth in Bucharest, Toma moved in 1950 to Iasi to CS Armata Iaşi. A year later he joined CA Câmpulung Moldovenesc in Divizia B, where he managed the climb at the end of the season. However, Toma left the club and joined the Romanian giants CCA Bucharest ( today Steaua Bucharest). He remained faithful to the CCA end of his career in 1961 and delivered during the entire time with Ion Voinescu a fight for a place in goal. This he did in his nine seasons on less than half of the possible games.

Nevertheless Tomas time was at CCA successful and he was able to collect seven Title: In the years 1952, 1953, 1956, 1960 and 1961 stood at the end of the season the championship; for the seasons 1952 and 1955, he was able to keep the trophy in their hands.

National

Not only in the club but also in the national team struggled with Ion Toma Voinescu around the place in goal. Thus he came 1953-1959 to a total of twelve missions. He had his premiere on October 11, 1953 against Bulgaria.

Career as a coach

After the end of his active career Toma worked as a trainer in the lower leagues, but did not come here to significant successes. Was later as a youth coach, first at FC Constanţa, from 1979 to 1985 worked at Luceafarul Bucharest, where he discovered among other things, future national players like Gheorghe Hagi, Miodrag Belodedici, Gheorghe Popescu, Ioan Sabău, Mircea Rednic, Ioan Andone and Marius Lăcătuş and promoted.
