Côtes du Marmandais

Côtes du Marmandais is a wine region in the wine growing region Sud -Ouest. Named after the town of Marmande appellation is located in the northern part of the wine-growing region this region. The vineyards cover approximately 1,700 hectares south of the appellation of Bergerac and have the status of a Appellation d' Origine since April 2, 1990. The vineyards on both sides of the Garonne are in direct extension of the Bordeaux appellations Entre deux mers and Graves.

The vineyard is divided the 27 municipalities Beaupuy, Bouglon, Cambes, Caubon -Saint -Sauveur, Castelnau -sur- Gupie, Cocumont, Escassefort Guérin, LaChapelle, Lagupie, Lévignac -de- Guyenne, Marcellus, Marmande, Mauvezin- sur- Gupie, Meilhan -sur -Garonne, Monteton, Montpouillan, Peyrière, Romestaing, Saint- Avit, Saint- Geraud, Saint -Martin- Petit, Saint- Sauveur -de- Meilhan, Sainte- Bazeille, Samazan, Seyches and Virazeil within the department Lot- et- Garonne.

It produces mainly red wines and rosés.

  • The red wine and rosé are blended from a maximum of 75 % of the principal grape varieties Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and a maximum of 50 % of the secondary grape varieties Abouriou, Malbec, Fer Servadou Gamay and Syrah.
  • The always dry -developed white wine is blended from the Leitrebsorte Sauvignon Blanc ( max. 70 %) and the secondary grape varieties Muscadelle, Sémillon and Ugni Blanc.

Income restrictions amount to 55 hectoliters / hectare for red and rosé wines, as well as 66 hectoliters / hectare for the white wines. Must weight must be for red wines at least 163 g / l. For white and rosé wines, this limit is as low as 153 g / l
