Counts and dukes of Penthièvre

The county Penthièvre lay in the northeast of Brittany and corresponded largely to the present-day department of Côtes -d'Armor; It was created in 1034 when Duke Alain III. for his brother Odo sought a rule, and served in succession as an appanage of the younger sons of the Dukes of Brittany.

After the extinction of the Dukes of Penthièvre, King Louis XIV in 1697, the Duchy of restores and gave it to one of his sons of Madame de Montespan, the Count of Toulouse, who died in 1737. His son was Louis Jean Marie de Bourbon, Duke of Penthièvre, born on 16 November 1725 in Rambouillet.

Thanks to the marriage of his daughter Marie Louise de Bourbon Adélaide with the well-known as a "citizen Egalite " Duke of Orléans, the vast estates of the house Penthièvre came to the Orléans family. In this the title of Duke of Penthièvre was the son of the Prince of Joinville, Prince Pierre Philippe Jean Marie of Orléans, who was born on November 4, 1845 in Saint- Cloud.
