County Down
Down ( Irish An Dún ) is one of six historic counties ( counties ) in Northern Ireland.
Geography
The County is located between the Carlingford Lough, the River Bann, Belfast Lough and the Irish Sea. The landscape is dominated by the last Ice Age. Higher elevations, there are just to the south of the Mourne Mountains and in Central Down with the Clieve Croob.
History
The county has a long history in the construction of megalithic plays a prominent role. The history of Down is up to the partition of the island part of the history of Ireland; see there. The historical battle of Mag Rath ( Moira, County Down ) in 637 is obtained ( " The Yellow Book of Lecan " ) in mythical form in the tale Cath Maige Rátha in the Leabhar Buidhe Lecain.
Economy
25 percent of agricultural land is used for agriculture ( barley, potatoes, vegetables ), 75 percent for livestock (cattle, pigs, poultry, sheep). Along the coast, fishing is done and there are several major resorts there.
In the vicinity of Belfast, the industry is concentrated. Primarily, there is a mechanical, electrical and computer, and textile industries.
