Craig Ramsay

Edward Craig Ramsay ( born March 17, 1951 in Weston, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current coach, who played from 1971 to 1985 for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League. Until November 2013, he worked as an assistant coach with the Florida Panthers.

Career

As a junior he played for the Peterborough Petes Boston in the OHL. After four years there, in 1971 Amateur Draft selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round than in the Nineteenth NHL.

Ramsay began with the Cincinnati Swords in the American Hockey League before he made ​​the jump to the Sabres in the NHL during the 1971/72 season. He became one of the best defensive forward and so his nickname " Rammer " suited his style of play. Together with Don Luce and Danny Gare he made over the years, the defensive line of Sabres. But their strength was to take not only the stars of the opponent out of the game, each of them also scored regularly over 20 goals a season. 1983 finished with a broken foot, a series of 776 consecutive games.

When he was offered after the 1984/85 season a job on the coaching staff of the Sabres, he ended his active career. During the season 1986/87 he took over the team temporarily as head coach. This was followed by jobs as assistant coach with the Florida Panthers, the Ottawa Senators and the Philadelphia Flyers. For the Flyers, he also had his second job as a head coach in the 2000 /01 season. He then joined the coaching staff of the Tampa Bay Lightning. In 2004 she won the Stanley Cup. In summer 2007, he moved to the Boston Bruins, where the next three years worked as an assistant coach. In June 2010 he was appointed head coach of the Atlanta Thrashers. After the relocation of the Thrashers to the 2011/12 season to Winnipeg, Manitoba, the Canadian was not committed. His vacant position was occupied by Claude Noël. On July 7, 2011 Ramsey was presented as an assistant coach with the Florida Panthers.
