Cross Road Blues

Cross Road Blues is a song by American Delta blues singer Robert Johnson, who was taken in San Antonio, Texas on November 27, 1936. He was released in 1937 on Vocalion (catalog number 3519 ). By Cross Road Blues, there is the published version, and, as with many other of his songs, a second version.

History

It dates from 1936, the song was the same year by Vocalion Records and ARC ( Vocalion 03519, ARC 05/07/81 ). Published. How many of the songs, there are two shots to the published version is Take 1 After recording a long time out of print, was the piece in 1961 appeared on the album King of the Delta Blues Singers again. Because of its historic importance of the Cross Road Blues was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. In the version of Robert Johnson singing is accompanied only by the guitar. In 1986 to join the Blues Hall of Fame was recorded.

Text

The text tells the story of a blues musician, who at a certain crossroads in the Mississippi Delta [note 1] sold his soul to the devil to learn from him the blues. According to legend, Robert Johnson, just like his besungener in the song friend Willie Brown, who made this deal with the devil. This assumption, however, there is no evidence.

This topic and the history of this song in 1986 in the movie Crossroads - used pact with the devil and in the mystery series Supernatural ( Season 2, Episode 8 " Cross Road Blues "). The theme of " soul selling " was processed by Johnson in the " 37's Session" songs " Hellhound on My Trail " and " Me & The Devil Blues".
