Cry! Cry! Cry!

1955

Cry! Cry! Cry! is a country song by Johnny Cash, the 1955 these, together with the Tennessee Two recorded at Sun Records, under the production of Sam Phillips, said they needed 35 takes. The piece appeared as the B-side of Cash's first single Hey, Porter and reached number 14 on the Billboard Country Songs.

Formation

Cash wrote the play because Phillips as a B- side of Hey, Porter wanted a quick, yet sad song. The title had cash taken from a saying of the country DJs Eddie Hill: "We've got some good songs, love songs, sweet songs, happy songs, and songs that'll make you cry, cry, cry. "

The piece is very different from other ballads this time. When a man complains in Cash's song about a questionable woman, as it had previously often done Hank Williams. In addition, the protagonist goes with his loved ones much harder on, as it was usual for that time, especially with ambiguous lines of text, such as " Everybody knows where you go, When the sun goes down ."

Success and cover versions

The piece became a nationwide success and made cash abruptly known, so he already landed a hit with his second single, Folsom Prison Blues, which was also placed well not only in the country but also in the pop charts.

2005 Joaquin Phoenix played a song for the film Walk the Line. The scenes in which the song is played, but do not appear in the finished film, but merely as " deleted scenes " on the DVD of the film. However, Phoenix's version of the song on the soundtrack of the same name is included on the film.

In addition, the song has been covered by, among others, Marty Stuart, Elvis Costello and Norah Jones.
