Cynolebias

Cynolebias is a genus of fish of the family Rivulidae, belongs to the group of egg-laying tooth carp and comes in eastern South America from northern Argentina ( Buenos Aires Province ) to the mouth of the Amazon before.

Features

Cynolebias species have a more or less high, laterally flattened body, from 5 to 13.3cm long and are brownish colored with a stripe or dot drawing on the sides of the body in most cases. Males have higher and longer dorsal and anal fins than the females and the number of each fin rays is greater in males. From the closely related genus Simpsonichthys to Cynolebias differs by the presence of pelvic fins. Cynolebias species are seasonal fish, that is, they inhabit waters that dry up periodically, their sunken at the spawn in the ground eggs make so-called Diapausen by and the young fish hatch until the onset of rains at the end of the dry season.
