Rivulidae

Austrolebias adloffi

The Rivulidae (Latin: " rivus " = river ) are a family of South American Zahnkärpflinge ( Cyprinodontiformes ). They were counted before the Cyprinodontidae, and are therefore called like this Egg-laying tooth carp. Sometimes you combined them with their Old World relatives of the family Aplocheilidae. They then form the subfamily Rivulinae. They live in fresh water, rarely in brackish water.

Features

There are small fish from 2.2 to 22 centimeters in length. Most of the nearly 350 species remain below 10 centimeters. The males are usually larger and much more colorful. Also, their unpaired fins are larger.
