The sickle ferns ( Cyrtomium ) are a genus within the family of Wurmfarngewächse ( Dryopteridaceae ). It comprises about 35 species and is closely related to the shield ferns ( Polystichum ) related.

Description

The Sichelfarn species grow as perennial herbaceous plants, terrestrial or on rock. Your Stems are erect or ascending, and they do not form stolons.

There is only one type of leaves and they are evergreen. The brush handle is half to three-quarters as long as the Wedelspreite and its base is thickened. The more than three vascular bundles are arranged in an arc, and more or less round in cross section. The paper-like or somewhat leathery, oblong- lanceolate in outline Wedelspreiten are usually simply pinnate, very rarely entire, the upper pinnae usually are only slightly smaller than the lower ones. The edges of the leaflets bear notches or teeth. On the top frond thread-like scales are available and the fronds bottom is bare.

The round sori are in two or more rows between the midrib and the margin. The shield-shaped veil ( indusia ) are persistent or deciduous. The brown spores have raised folds or wings.

The basic chromosome number is x = 41
