Cytoprotection

As cytoprotection, also called cell protection, refers to a supportive therapy strategy with which the healthy body cells to be protected from toxic effects.

In oncology Zytoprotektoren to protect the healthy cells from the harmful effects of radiation or chemotherapy, without compromising the antitumor efficacy of the therapy is adversely affected.

Examples of such permitted Zytoprotektoren are amifostine, mesna and dexrazoxane.

In anatomy of the gastrointestinal tract is called, for example, with respect to the glands containing mucous membrane of the stomach, the pars glandularis of cytoprotection. Here the cardia and pyloric glands ( glands cardiacae et pyloricae ) form a mucous secretion ( " mucus " ), which coats the stomach wall as a protective layer and protects them from self-digestion.
