D. J. King

Dwayne J. King (* June 27, 1984 in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who stands in July 2010 at the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League contract. His younger brother Dwight is also a professional hockey player.

Career

King began his career in 2001 in the Canadian Junior Football League WHL Lethbridge Hurricanes in the. Already this year, he made a name for himself as a talented Enforcer and was to be found every year among the most active fighters of his team. These qualities also made NHL teams attention to him and he was selected in 2002 at the annual NHL Draft by the St. Louis Blues in the sixth round at position 190.

After being in his last season as a junior once again joined the team and won with the Kelowna Rockets to the Memorial Cup, he debuted in the 2004/05 season as a professional in the Worcester IceCats, the farm team of the St. Louis Blues. There, too, he got a 20 -year-old freshman equal the peak position of penalty time statistics with 178 minutes and 18 fist fights. Since the IceCats disbanded in the summer of 2005 and the Blues changed their AHL farm team, King has been playing two years his skates for the Peoria Rivermen.

In the following season he could not play long and completed only 12 games in the AHL and ten in the NHL because of a broken finger.

His contract was initially extended by two years to get him then redeem them for Stefan Della Rovere of the Washington Capitals in July 2010.
