Dabqaad

The Dabqaad ( Somali for " fire support " ), also called Girgire, is a clay pot with one or two handles, which is common in Somalia, and Djibouti in the south. It is used for scenting the house by burning it on hot charcoal incense ( lubaan ) or special " scent stones " ( uunsi ).

The Dabqaad can be found in almost every Somali household, and is usually set on fire after a large meal, as well as on special occasions, such as when one expects visit. The vessel is made ​​of white clay from areas north and south of Somalia. It is said that the best and most beautiful Dabqaad would be produced in the region of Galguduud. Many Somalis who live in Europe or North America, have a Dabqaad.

In Arabia, North Africa and Turkey are used in a similar way, the Mabkhara.
