Daily Watchwords
The NASB consist of a collection of short Bible texts of the Old and New Testaments. They are considered as non-denominational as they are for all Christians, regardless of denomination, written.
By drawing lots an Old Testament verse is set for each day of the year, which can serve the reader as a motto or good thought for the day. From the New Testament is elected by an employee of the Moravian Church a so-called " teaching text", which usually is in direct or thematic reference to the Old Testament verse dissolved. Also, a suitable song or prayer, the selected "Third Text" by the employees.
In addition are added
- A reading that refers to the church year
- A continuous Bible reading
The annually recurring week spell of the week Psalm and the sermon are not provided for Sundays and church holidays.
The solutions are drawn annually since 1731 in Herrnhut. They appear in various print editions and on electronic media. There is also free software for visualization of the solutions on computers and mobile devices.
The solutions are used throughout the Christian world and translated into many languages (2012 in 55 languages). Here are the texts of the Bible, if possible, selected from the editions of the Bible in the language; in Germany the current Luther translation. The third text is selected from the songs and the piety of the respective culture. In some editions there are two song verses (one each for the solution and for teaching text).
The Jahreslosung - a biblical word for the year - is indeed reported in the solution, but does not derive from the tradition of the Moravian Church. It is defined and administered by the World Association for Bible reading in advance.
Since 2009, there are in addition to the normal expenditure and large print editions, a special for young people with space for notes. Moreover, it was specifically designed for this target group launched a new Internet site.
There is also a primitive languages edition, in which the Old Testament verse in Hebrew and the New Testament verse is read in Greek. As a translator vocabulary explanations are printed.
Formation
The emergence of possible solutions is to thank Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf, who on May 3, 1728 first solution gave the Brethren in the familiar " singing lesson " on the way: " Love has driven along it, Love tore him from the throne, and I should not love him? With the publication of the first printed version of the 1731 Daily Devotional was no longer drawn every day, but for a whole year. The solutions in the sense of Count von Zinzendorf: " slogans are what is called the watchword in war, from siblings can see how they can take their course at a mark. " The basic form of the biblical word and the Gesangbuchvers was already given in 1731. The other form was a Gesangbuchvers with regard to individual passages, which has ceased to exist later. It is noteworthy that many readers of the solutions have come through the reading of a daily Bible reading.
In 1943, the allocation of paper was denied, so that the Moravian Church was given a generous donation of paper by the brothers from Sweden. However, even after the arrival of the paper, the pressure necessary permission was not granted. Only after the Brethren the Swedish explorer Sven Hedin asked for help and this then a letter to Joseph Goebbels wrote how much lying to him the appearance of the solutions on the heart, the print permission in October 1943 for the years 1943, 1944 and 1945 for the solutions was granted. In response, Goebbels wrote on April 1, 1943 Sven Hedin:
