Damir Pekič

Damir Pekič ( born January 15, 1979 in Maribor) is a Slovenian football player. The striker, who was standing outside of his home country and in Germany, Portugal and Hungary under contract, won in the season 2000 /01 the title of the scorer of Slovenska Nogometna league.

Career

Pekič comes from the youth of the KOVINAR MB. His professional career began when the attacker NK Maribor. As a young player he made his debut for the men's team of the first division, in which it was first used irregularly. Accordingly, he had only a minor share of the profits of the championships in 1998, 1999 and 2000. For the season 2000 /01 the club gave him to the league rivals NK Celje. Although he finished with the club only the fifth place, with 23 goals this season, he sat down in front Sebastijan Cimirotič and Ermin Rakovič to the top of the scoring list.

After his subsequent return to NK Maribor Pekič established then also there in the forward line. With 14 goals this season, he was again one of the most prolific strikers in the league and was thus a guarantee of re- winning the league title. He placed himself behind Romano Obilinović and his teammates Samir Duro third scorer. In the following two seasons, he hit two digits, but was the top scorer far behind the top scorers Marko Kmetec respectively Dražen Žeželj. Nevertheless, it was enough to two other title wins. In the season 2002/ 03 he took the club to the league title again, the following year he won at the side of Aleš Čeh Peter Franci and Bostjan Znuderl the National Cup. The 4-0 first-leg win against NK Dravograd he shone as a scored twice and contributed in view of the 3:4 second-leg defeat decisively win the title at.

Through his goalscoring Pekič had attracted the attention of foreign clubs. Therefore, in the summer of 2004, he left his homeland and LR Ahlen joined in the 2nd Bundesliga. Neither under coach Ingo Peter still under his successor František Straka he came to train and stayed behind players like Stanko Svitlica, Daniel Thioune, Babacar N'Diaye or Musemestre Bamba use loose substitute. Therefore, he returned to the West German club back and joined the Portuguese club CS Marítimo. Again, his commitment was unsuccessful, so he returned to his homeland after a mid- series.

At his old club NK Maribor Pekič again showed his eye for goal. By the end of the season, he scored seven goals this season, said he had a broken by the halftime break hat trick in a 4-1 victory over the eventual champions ND Gorica. Thus, the team ended the season in fourth place. After he had contributed in the following season with eight goals to reach the third rank table, he left in the summer of 2007 again his homeland. However, his foreign involvement in the Hungarian club Zalaegerszegi TE FC also did not last long, after one and a half years, he moved back to Slovenia.

Pekič joined in spring 2009 NK Nafta Lendava. For the first division he ran up to the end of the season and contributed with a goal of the season to avoid relegation of clubs at ostslowenischen. In the summer, he moved within the league for NK Domžale, with whom he finished as the league table of eight.
