Daniel Fignolé

Pierre Eustache Fignolé Daniel (* 1914, 1918 or 1920; † August 27, 1986 in Port -au -Prince ) was a Haitian politician and President of Haiti.

Biography

Fignolé, who came from a liberal family and whose grandfather had been Senator, worked after studying as a teacher. After the revolution of January 1946, he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies elected ( Chambre des Députés ), where he remained until 1957. Due to his age he could not run in the presidential election in 1946. From August to October 1946, he was briefly a member of the government of Dumarsais Estimé as Minister of Education.

As one of the first he began with the organization of trade unions in Haiti such as the Mouvement Ouvrier Paysan (movement of agricultural workers), which was called during the revolution popularly known as " The Steamroller " (The Steamroller ). In April 1947, he was then founder of the Syndicat of Ouvrier et Travailleurs (Union of Printers and workers). Then place the establishment of the National Union of Travailleurs Haitien in March 1948.

Was Fignolé after the resignation of General Léon Cantave on May 25, 1957 Provisional President of Haiti. Just three weeks later, he was replaced on June 14, 1957 by General Antonio Thrasybule Kebreau.

Then he left Haiti and went into exile in the U.S., where he temporarily lived in New York City and is critical of the political situation in Haiti, especially after the beginning of the dictatorship of François Duvalier, he still made ​​the time together in the movement of agricultural workers (MOP) knew. Only after the fall of Duvalier's son Jean -Claude Duvalier in February 1986, he returned to Haiti, where he died a few months later.
