Daniel Manzato

Daniel Manzato ( born January 17, 1984 in Freiburg ) is a Swiss professional ice hockey goaltender, who plays for HC Lugano of the Swiss National League A since 2012.

Career

Manzato comes from the offspring of HC Fribourg- Gottéron for which it was first used in the playoffs of the 1999/2000 season as a substitute goalkeeper in the National League A. In 2001 he decided to take a move to North America and played for three years for the Tigres de Victoriaville Quebec Major Junior Hockey from the League. During this time he was selected as the 160th overall draft pick in the NHL Entry Draft in 2002 by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fifth round.

2003, the goalkeeper returned to Switzerland and played in four seasons for the Kloten Flyers, the HC Ambri -Piotta and the EHC Basel. He established himself in the league. In 2007, he ventured again to move to North America and has been in the organization of the Hurricanes moved from one team to the next, before he found shelter for several months with the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL. With these the Swiss in 2008 reached the final of the Kelly Cup, the championship trophy of the ECHL. In the summer of 2008 he took part in the training camp of the Hurricanes, but was not included in the NHL squad. Instead, he plays for the Hurricanes farm team, the Albany River Rats in the American Hockey League as a second goalkeeper behind Justin Peters.

23 August 2009 Manzato signed a three - year contract with the Rapperswil -Jona Lakers of the Swiss National League A.

Internationally

Daniel Manzato previously represented Switzerland at four major tournaments. As a junior player, he was a member of the squad at the U18 World Cup in 2001 and the U-20 World Championship in 2003. In 2007 and 2009 he belonged to Mr. selection at each World Cup, but came only in 2007 to use one.
