Darnózseli

Darnózseli is a town with 1600 inhabitants in the center of the Small Rye Island ( Szigetkoz ), which is the largest island of Hungary. It is surrounded by the Old Danube and Moson- Danube.

In Darnózseli there is a cemetery chapel, which was built in 1787. There then was also an independent parish. The chancel was restored and can be visited on the cemetery grounds today. The current church was built in 1930 in neoclassical style. The village is dominated by traditional Hungarian houses. Another attraction are some 100 -year-old oak trees ( "Millennium Oaks" ), which were planted on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the Hungarian conquest. In Zseli forest is also home to a monument to the Napoleonic battles.

Darnózseli is surrounded by conservation areas, close to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Fertő Hansag. The International Danube bike path runs right through Darnózseli. Furthermore, the island is ideal for all sorts of sporting activities such as hiking, inline skating, water sports, horse riding, golf, fishing, hunting, air sports, archery and swimming in summer and skating in winter. On the few bad weather days (1950 hours of sunshine per year ), you can indulge in one of the nearby thermal baths of the spa. The area offers numerous castles, museums, and picturesque villages are also waiting for a visit; Markets, exhibitions and many festivals round out the cultural program. Nature lovers will find a very species- rich animal and plant life.

Because of the beautiful landscape and the favorable property prices already some German and Austrians have settled in Darnózseli.
