The Large-flowered datura ( Datura innoxia ) is a plant of the genus datura ( Datura ) in the nightshade family (Solanaceae ).

Description

The Large-flowered Datura is a 30 to 200 cm tall, hairy plant. The leaves are 5-16 cm long and 3.5 to 11 cm wide. They are ovate, irregularly cut to wedge-shaped, entire or wavy.

The calyx is 60-95 mm long, angled and covered with 11 to 25 mm long, unequal, linear - triangular, pointed teeth. The crown is 11 to 19 cm long, tubular, colored white and sometimes coated with a violet tint.

The fruits are 5.5 to 6.5 cm in diameter, egg-shaped capsules that are nodding and jump erratically. They are covered with long slender spines.

Occurrence

The species is native to Central America, but is locally wild in the Mediterranean region.
