David Price (U.S. politician)

David Eugene Price ( born August 17, 1940 in Erwin, Unicoi County, Tennessee) is an American politician. Since 1987 he represents with a break the state of North Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

David Price attended the Unicoi County High School and then 1957-1959 the Mars Hill College in North Carolina. This was followed up in 1961 to study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Until 1969, he then studied at Yale University, among others, theology and philosophy. Between 1963 and 1967, Price served on the staff of U.S. Senator Bob Bartlett of Alaska. From 1973 to 1986, and again in the years 1995 and 1996 he was a lecturer at Duke University in Durham.

Politically, Price joined the Democratic Party. In the years 1981 and 1982 he was a member of the Democratic National Committee. Then he led from 1983 to 1984 the party chairmanship in North Carolina. In the congressional elections of 1986, Price was in the fourth electoral district of his state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Bill Cobey on January 3, 1987. After three re- elections he was initially able to complete four legislative sessions in Congress until January 3, 1995. In the 1994 elections, he was defeated by Republican Fred Heineman.

In 1996, Price was able to regain his previous mandate in Congress. Since he was in all subsequent elections confirmed in each case, he can exercise his mandate until today. His current legislative period runs until 3 January 2013. He is a member of the Appropriations Committee and three of its subcommittees. He was from the beginning an opponent of the Iraq war. David Price has been married since 1968 and has two children.
