David Tracy

David Tracy ( born January 6, 1939 in Yonkers ) is an American Roman Catholic theologian.

Life

Tracy is a priest of the Diocese of Bridgeport ( Connecticut ). He studied at the Gregorian University in Rome, where he earned an MA in 1964 and his doctorate in theology in 1969. From 1967 to 1969 he taught at the Catholic University of America. In 1969 he was appointed professor of theology at the Divinity School of the University of Chicago. In 1982 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

He holds honorary doctorates from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, Fairfield University in Connecticut and the catholical Theological Union and Rosary College in Chicago.
