DBAG Class 424

The electric railcars of series 424 are designed to operated by DB Regio S -Bahn Hannover and are only used there.

Technology

The Series 424 is substantially identical to the first 425 are the differences series with Series 425:

  • Stepless entrances with retractable stair tread to bridge the gap
  • Rollstuhlhublift not exist because not needed
  • Existing in the 425 drive monitoring was not implemented in 424, hence the 424 also LZB - guided only 140 km / h is allowed to drive.

Later 425 series have partly also get the entrances with retractable stair tread, but have not called 424. As the 425 is the 424 of four segments, led by Endtriebwagen 1 with the series designation 424.0, the two center railcars 2 and 3 with the designation 434.0 and 434.5 and the Endtriebwagen 4 with the series designation 424.5. The car bodies based on five bogies, two end bogies and three bogies Jacob, the middle bogie is neither driven nor braked. The 424 series vehicles are not only among each other couple, but also put together to mixed multiple units with 425 and 426. A maximum of four trainsets are coupled. In Endtriebwagen 1 a disabled toilet is installed.

Unlike older S -Bahn systems, the vehicle has a floor height of only 798 mm, providing a nearly equal height and with deployable side steps also barrier-free access to 760 mm high standard platforms. The outwardly similar, but technically completely different structure S-Bahn Class 423 is designed to meet the higher platforms in older S-Bahn networks. The vehicles of the series 424/434 (like the 425 series ) two double sliding doors per car body and side, while 423 three doors per car body and side are present in the series.

After the DB Regio was again commissioned by the tender of the S-Bahn services with the management, the vehicles received the 2010/11 exchange seats with thicker seat.

Use

The vehicles should go simultaneously with the commissioning of the new S -Bahn network Hanover in 2000 in use, but this was prevented by technical problems. The suspended under the body frame transformers were not properly shielded, causing malfunction of the line-side signaling and safety equipment. During the EXPO 2000 borrowed from the S-Bahn in Munich and Stuttgart 423 series vehicles were used instead of the Series 424. After the problems had been resolved, the 424 series vehicles came to the Expo used. For major events such as the Hanover Fair come to reinforce the 425 series rental cars from other regions to use.

Later the fleet was supplemented by six vehicles of the series 425.15, which were designed to be deployed on the S 5 to Paderborn with Vario steps. 2008, a further 13 multiple units of class 425.2 of the fifth production series for the expansion of the S -Bahn to Hildesheim were added.

Since 2003, some vehicles are named after cities / towns in the S- Bahn network Hanover. Until now carry 22 railcars the coat of arms and the name of a community at both ends:
