De Klassieker

De Klassieker ( German: The Classic ) is called the Derby in Dutch football between Ajax Amsterdam and Feyenoord Rotterdam. The matches between two teams are enjoying a high popularity, audience and count for both groups of supporters of the most important games of the season. The record number of audience this derby was set up on January 9, 1966 in Rotterdam. At that time 65 562 spectators attended the game between the two rivals.

History

The first meeting between the teams took place on 9 October 1921. The match, held in Rotterdam, ended 2:2. In the return leg in Amsterdam, on March 5, 1922 Ajax 2-0 retained the upper hand and won the Klassieker for the first time. Feyenoord's first victory in the derby was on 21 January 1923. It was also the first away win one of the two teams in the Klassieker. Already in the following duel Ajax could in turn win in Rotterdam. In the season 1978/79, on 28 October 1978, there was so far the only 0-0 in the history of this encounter; otherwise always was at least one hit per game.

Disputes outside the court
